Jitterbug Wireless is a prepaid provider aimed at retired individuals. Jitterbug offers phones that are basic and easy to use with a large digit keypad and a display screen with large digits that is easy to read. Jitterbug also has a 24/7 operator to assist with calls.

Jitterbug sells two models of phones, one with a standard digit keypad, and one with only three buttons, "operator", "tow" and "911". Both models are priced at an astonishing $147.

Minutes are sold at either .25 per minute or .35, depending on the plan. Which makes Jitterbug the most expensive prepaid plan. Voice mail is also an additional charge, and the service has no text messaging available or other advanced services (which they claim is a benefit of their service).

I would recommend retired people who want a simple to use cell phone buy a basic model from Virgin Mobile or NET10 in the $10 to $30 range. Most wireless providers and retailers would be happy to show their customers how to use the basic functions of their phone.

Ease of use is a major factor for the over 60 crowd however, I get the feeling your grandma and grandpa know the value of a dollar and will look at the alternatives before sinking a hefty sum into a featureless phone with equally hefty service charges.
