Metro PCS is a regional carrier operating in parts of Florida, Georgia, Michigan,
and California. Their gimmick is to offer unlimited service for a low
flat rate price.
Metro PCS does offer some advanced services like wireless web and text
messaging for an additional cost.
There are no contracts with MetroPCS and you are required to prepay for
service. Generally the first month is free. You can also purchase
popular phones like the Motorola Razr for use with Metro PCS.
MetroPCS service is very economical with unlimited calling plans
starting at $30.
MetroPCS's cellular network is overburdened and operates at capacity or
near capacity. Expect frequent dropped calls, and areas of no service that
are covered by towers. Indoor reception is minimal.
Customer service is generally not available. Existing customers often
experience messages such as "call back later" or hang ups. MetroPCS
does have a good number porting department who was able to assist
me with moving my number elsewhere, after I moved to a new carrier.
If you travel frequently you may not be able to use your phone outside
of the regions MetroPCS covers or will be charged very high roaming fees.
If you use your wireless phone frequently and would like an unlimited plan,
with better reliability, I would recommend Helio which has unlimited minute plans
starting at near $100 and excellent reliable nationwide service.
