XE Mobile is a prepaid provider (MVNO) that targets college students and 18-29 year olds. XE Mobile is sold in variety of locations but is not as widely available as some other prepaid carriers.

All XE Mobile plans feature free incoming text messages and 10 cents to send text messages. XE mobile has three plans, small which is .20 per minute, medium which has a .50 per day access fee and is .15 per minute, and large which is $1 per day access fee and is .10 per minute.
XE equipment costs are in the midrange for prepaid MVNOs. Service rates are in the mid-high range. The money tight 18-29 crowd would be better served with the lower equipment costs and service costs of GSM providers like NET10 and T-Mobile to Go or CDMA provider Virgin Mobile which also caters to the 18-29 crowd. Economics and accounting majors will know that means more money left over for pizza, beer, and textbooks.

XE mobile equipment is not widely available but, can be seen in an increasing amount of retail locations and of course is available directly from XE mobile online.

The XE mobile website also lists some of their phones as having the capabilities to play videos, but doesn't mention if their service offers web capabilities which leaves me to assume their service is only capable of MMS/SMS and voice service. Feature hungry college students might go with Helio instead.

The lesson here is to always compare before buying. In the halls of academia it's a no-brainer.
